The number of crypto users in the United Kingdom decreased by 35%

The number of crypto holders in the United Kingdom this year has decreased compared to last year, although the average holding value per investor has increased, according to the latest report from the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Specifically, the number of crypto owners in the UK has dropped from approximately 7 million in 2024 to about 4.5 million in 2025, a decrease of around 35%. However, awareness of crypto among the UK population remains very high, reaching 91%, according to the FCA’s Cryptoassets Consumer Research 2025 report.

The FCA states that the percentage of adults in the UK holding crypto has fallen from 12% in 2024 to 8% this year. These findings are released at the same time as the regulator has launched consultations on new crypto regulations, with a legal framework being developed to expand oversight of the sector.

Despite the decline in participation rates, the FCA emphasizes that the current level of crypto ownership is still twice as high as in 2021. Notably, while the number of investors has decreased, those remaining tend to hold larger amounts. About 21% of respondents said they own crypto valued between £1,001 and £5,000, equivalent to approximately $1,345–$6,720.

The average holding value per investor has increased to nearly $2,500, compared to about $2,300 last year. According to a Financial Times report published in October, the total crypto holdings by UK residents are currently around $17.3 billion.

Bitcoin and Ether continue to be the two most popular crypto assets in the UK. About 70% of crypto investors in the country hold Bitcoin, while nearly 35% own Ether. This indicates that, although market participation has decreased, capital is still primarily concentrated in the two largest digital assets.
