A Canadian woman has sued Rogers Communications and Match Transact Inc. for the loss of Bitcoin worth 531,000 USD in a SIM swap scam in 2021. Raelene Vandenbosch claims that her personal information was disclosed by a phone store employee to a hacker, leading to the hacker accessing her account and stealing more than 12 BTC, currently valued at about 1.8 million USD.

The Supreme Court of British Columbia has decided that the lawsuit will be resolved through private arbitration, except for the part requiring public acknowledgment of wrongdoing. Vandenbosch accuses Match of negligence and violation of privacy, while seeking damages. Rogers and Match have neither admitted nor denied the allegations and argue that the matter should be resolved through arbitration.
