According to the announcement of the DeFi Education Fund, the SEC’s Cryptocurrency Working Group held a roundtable today titled “DeFi and the American Spirit”.
In the opening speech of the meeting, SEC Chairman Atkins emphasized the compatibility of decentralized finance (DeFi) with American values.
Atkins said, “American values such as economic freedom, property rights, and innovation are at the core of the DeFi movement.”
In his speech, Atkins stated that developers of neutral tools cannot be held responsible for the actions of third parties, using the following expressions:
“Engineers should not be subject to federal securities laws simply for publishing software code. As a court has also stated; when a third party illegally uses an autonomous vehicle for its own interests, you hold the person committing the crime responsible, not the vehicle manufacturer. The same principle should apply to DeFi.”
The meeting continued with the sharing of various views on how DeFi can become more compliant with regulations in America and how the rights of developers can be protected.
