Ripple, the developer of XRP, will unlock hundreds of millions of dollars worth of XRP at the beginning of July.
Ripple will release 1 billion tokens on July 1, worth approximately $470 million. This transaction, which is part of Ripple's monthly sales, may affect the price of XRP in the coming weeks.
Doing it regularly
Since 2017, Ripple has been unlocking 1 billion tokens on the first day of each month. According to XRPScan, the company has been managing these transactions using the "Ripple (24)" and "Ripple (25)" accounts since May 2024. These wallets continue to unlock monthly 1 billion XRP until January 2025.
Notably, "Ripple (24)" will release a total of XRP 500 million from two different locked accounts: 100 million and 400 million tokens. "Ripple (25)" will release 500 million tokens from a single locked account.
What happened last month?
In June, 1 billion XRP was released from the “Ripple (24)” and “Ripple (25)” accounts. Subsequently, Ripple allocated 200 million tokens for sale and locked the remaining amount in escrow accounts until September 2027.
In addition, by adding an extra 200 million XRP for this last sale, it conducted the largest monthly sale in history with a total of 400 million.
Market fluctuation may occur
Ripple's these regular large sales may exert pressure on the XRP price. In the past, such large sales have often led to an increase in supply in the market and thus fluctuations. Investors may expect potential volatility in the XRP price after this large token release on July 1.
