Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA banking details and it's causing payment delays. If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you can't do this online - you have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person. Bring your valid ID and proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months or a letter from your bank). They'll fill out the Payment Method Change Form and send it to the bank, which takes up to 21 working days. Make sure you submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next month.
For the SRD grant though, it's different - everything is online through the official SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS to your registered number, and you update your banking details there. The account has to be in your name though, no joint accounts. This whole thing takes a few days to weeks for verification.
Also don't forget to update your cellphone number if it changed, especially for SRD since they use SMS for verification and payment notifications. Same deal - either use the online contact portal (you'll need your ID and Application ID) or call 0800 60 10 11 if you're stuck. Honestly, going to the office in person is usually faster if you've got time. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA link, there's a lot of fake websites out there trying to scam people for their details.
