Golden Finance reports that on March 26, the U.S. House Financial Services Committee held a hearing on securities tokenization. Republican Congressman Andy Barr stated that securities tokenization is “inevitably coming” and that regulatory modernization is imperative.
The SEC has previously approved DTCC to tokenize high-liquidity assets on designated blockchains, and recently approved Nasdaq to support tokenized stock trading. SEC Chairman Gary Gensler said they will seek public input on an innovation exemption plan and establish a regulatory sandbox for on-chain assets.
Some Democratic lawmakers expressed concerns about the exemption plan, believing it could create a two-tier market.
