Reports suggest that Zhang Xuefeng suffered sudden cardiac arrest and is receiving emergency treatment. I looked at his situation and it's very similar to a relative of mine who passed away a couple of days ago. I think I should write this out to remind everyone about a health trap to watch out for.
My relative was just over 45, worked in engineering, and was my senior, so I called him uncle. I just found out yesterday that he suddenly passed away two days ago. According to what my mom told me, here's roughly what happened:
He had been socializing and drinking with people for business for a long time, with an irregular lifestyle and not particularly good health. But as a rural person with a strong foundation, he always looked very spirited. Over the past few years, he apparently made good money, moved to Changsha, and started consciously wanting to improve his health.
Last week, he and his wife started doing morning jogs. They jogged for two days without any issues. On the third day, his wife didn't want to go and stayed in bed, so he went alone. He suffered a myocardial infarction and collapsed on the road. Unfortunately, not many people passed through that area, and since he had recently moved there, few people knew him. By the time someone called 120 and he was taken to the hospital, he was already gone.🙏🙏
I've been using Whoop and Bevel lately to track my body condition and frequently ask AI about it. When I inquired yesterday, Bevel explained that after consecutive high-intensity exercise, his body experienced Cardio Load overload, and continuing to exercise without adequate recovery could, in extreme cases, trigger serious cardiac problems.
I showed this to my relative's wife, and she also said the situation matched the AI analysis pretty well.
What's remarkable is that I was just discussing yesterday how to avoid the trap of overtraining, and today I see Zhang Xuefeng had an incident.
So I'd advise everyone not to suddenly increase intensity. You need to give your body an adaptation period.
Additionally, I'd recommend that if you have the means, get a Whoop, or if you have an Apple Watch, install Bevel (the annual fee is much cheaper than Whoop and works pretty well too). They understand your body better than you do and can pull you back from the edge before you fall into a pit.
