#OpenAI拟推出桌面超级应用 OpenAI Desktop Super App Coming: Integrating Three Core Components, Is AI Experience Entering a "One-Stop" Era?

OpenAI is advancing the development of a desktop "super app" that integrates ChatGPT, programming tool Codex, and a browser into one unified platform. This move is far more than simple feature stacking—it's a key signal of the AI industry's transition from "fragmented tools" to "integrated experience." This represents both a strategic adjustment driven by market competition and an inevitable result of evolving user needs.

From an industry perspective, the current AI application market has entered an "experience-driven" stage. A QuestMobile 2025 report shows that monthly active users of AI applications on PC have reached 205 million, while user complaints about switching between multiple tools are growing increasingly prominent—the tedious workflow of opening Codex for coding, using a browser for research, and summoning ChatGPT for questions severely impacts productivity.

OpenAI's integration effort precisely addresses this pain point, enabling users to complete the entire workflow of conversational consulting, programming development, and information retrieval within a single window. The competitive pressures behind this move are equally significant.

Data shows that OpenAI's enterprise business generates approximately $10 billion in annualized revenue, while competitor Anthropic has reached $25 billion. The latter's rapid rise in the enterprise market has forced OpenAI to consolidate its focus and concentrate on core offerings. OpenAI's previously scattered product portfolio diluted resources and attention; this integration, led by the applications business CEO, aims to concentrate efforts on building differentiated advantages and enhancing user stickiness through a "one-stop" experience.

Notably, this super app will also incorporate "intelligent agent" functionality, enabling AI to autonomously complete complex tasks like programming and data analysis—highly aligned with the 2025 AI application trend of "scenario penetration." However, opportunities come with challenges: How can the product balance everyday users' demands for simplicity with developers' requirements for professional features while avoiding becoming "bloated"? Can it meet enterprise customers' stringent standards on data security and permission management? These questions are critical to the product's success or failure.

Overall, OpenAI's integration initiative marks the AI industry's transition from "competing on feature quantity" to "competing on experience efficiency." As PC AI user bases continue to expand, this "integrated" model could trigger industry-wide adoption, with more AI companies potentially focusing on omnichannel collaboration in the future. For users, this is undoubtedly good news, but whether it truly enhances productivity ultimately depends on real-world performance after launch—because feature integration is just the first step; smooth usability is the true competitive advantage.
