Concerns and expectations about artificial intelligence vary significantly depending on a country’s economic level and technological adoption.

On March 18, according to a report by Anthropic, although overall awareness of AI is generally positive across countries with little variation, there are notable differences in optimism and concern based on economic status.

In December of last year, Anthropic conducted interviews with users worldwide who have Claude.ai accounts, involving 80,508 people from 159 countries and 70 language regions.

Overall, positive perceptions of AI are high across all countries, generally exceeding 60%. Especially in low- and middle-income countries, there is a stronger tendency toward optimism. / Anthropic

Among all respondents, 67% hold a positive view of AI. The proportion of positive responses exceeds 60% in all countries, indicating a generally high level of acceptance of AI.

Regionally, South America, Africa, and Asia show relatively higher optimism. Countries like Brazil (72%), India (73%), and Japan (69%) have positive response rates above the average, while Canada (71%) and some European countries also display similar levels. Conversely, South Korea (61%), the UK (63%), Germany (64%), France (65%), and the US (66%) are at or below the average, showing relatively lower positivity.

Regarding concerns, regional differences are also evident. The highest proportions of respondents reporting “no concerns” are in Sub-Saharan Africa (18%), Central Asia (17%), and South Asia (17%). These figures are roughly double those in North America (8%), Oceania (8%), and Western Europe (9%).
