Vietnam has achieved a significant milestone in the regional tech landscape by enacting a comprehensive law dedicated to artificial intelligence. The legislation came into effect on Sunday, March 1, 2026, solidifying Vietnam’s position as a pioneer in regulating smart technologies in Southeast Asia. According to Ming Pao, this measure makes Vietnam the first country in the region to have such a detailed and ambitious legal framework for AI.

The legislation reflects Vietnam’s commitment to managing the growing impact of AI technology across various economic and social sectors. The new framework establishes strict ethical principles and accountability mechanisms for AI applications, setting a standard that other countries might adopt as a model. This initiative positions Vietnam as a leader in regional technological governance, paving the way for neighboring nations to follow in the coming years.
