(MENAFN) Kuwait announced Wednesday that its military forces are actively responding to what officials described as a surge of aerial threats within the country’s skies. Authorities confirmed that multiple missiles and drones had been detected and that defensive measures were underway.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, the Defense Ministry, citing the General Staff of the Armed Forces, said the military "are currently dealing with a wave of missiles and drones” identified in Kuwait’s airspace. It added that forces are carrying out operations “to intercept and counter” the incoming projectiles.
“The General Staff affirms full readiness to address all threats” to safeguard the country’s territory and airspace, and “the safety of its residents and citizens,” the statement said.
Officials have not disclosed where the missiles and drones originated.
The announcement comes against the backdrop of heightened instability across the region following a major offensive launched Saturday by the United States and Israel against Iran. The large-scale assault reportedly resulted in nearly 800 fatalities, including Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
In response, Tehran has carried out retaliatory drone and missile attacks aimed at Israel and several Gulf states that host American military assets, further intensifying tensions across the region.
