Abstract generation in progress

Supported by YZi Labs, a decentralized on-chain trading platform focused on high performance and privacy protection, Aster announced the final results of its “Humans vs AI” live trading competition. Over a two-week period with highly volatile market conditions, the event highlighted the stark contrast between human subjective trading and AI-driven strategies.

Although human trader ProMint achieved the highest ranking with positive net profit, the overall ROI for the human trading team was -32.22%, reflecting significant performance disparities among participants. In contrast, the AI team delivered substantially more stable results overall, with total losses of approximately $13,000, and all participating AI strategies had an overall ROI of -4.48%.

Trading Insights: Stability vs Asymmetric Opportunities

The competition data highlighted clear differences in risk behavior between human traders and AI. During the event, 43% of human participants faced liquidations, while all 30 AI participants avoided any liquidations, completing the competition with a 100% survival rate.

According to Aster, the results underscore the structural advantages of AI-driven strategies in stable, risk-controlled market environments, particularly in systematic execution and disciplined risk management, which help reduce large drawdowns. At the same time, the findings also indicate that in markets driven by human emotions, rapid market shifts, and nonlinear price dynamics, human subjective traders with strong judgment and narrative comprehension can still identify asymmetric opportunities and outperform purely systematic approaches.

Future Competitiveness Lies in Collaboration, Not Replacement

The competition data showed that human traders exhibited significantly broader performance disparities, with the top individual profit exceeding $19,000, while losses in other cases approached $18,000, leading to higher overall volatility in returns.

Aster emphasizes that the purpose of the “Humans vs AI” showdown is not to establish a replacement relationship but to clarify the evolving roles. AI is increasingly becoming a foundational tool for execution and risk management, while human traders are contributing more in complex market conditions through judgment, contextual awareness, and narrative interpretation. Therefore, Aster believes that future competitiveness will be driven by collaboration between humans and AI, rather than direct confrontation.

Aster: Using the Market as a Real-World Testing Ground

Aster states that the initial intention of hosting this live trading competition was to observe the behavior of different traders under real market conditions on the same decentralized infrastructure, rather than relying on backtesting or simulated data.

As the decentralized derivatives market continues to develop, Aster will keep exploring infrastructure designs that better serve professional trading needs, enabling strategies, risk management, and execution to achieve higher on-chain certainty.

“This is not a competition with preset conclusions, but a starting point,” said Leonard, CEO of Aster, in a post-competition summary. “As markets become increasingly complex, traders need more than just a single tool. They need an integrated system that can evolve alongside the market.”

The next trading showdown will commence on January 22

Aster has confirmed that the next live trading competition will officially begin on January 22 and will be conducted on the Aster Chain testnet.

The upcoming event will be open to a newly expanded group of traders, including professional participants from around the world, allowing them to engage in live trading competitions within Aster’s testnet environment.
