Who is Really a Trader?

Often called a “market operator,” a Trader is simply someone who buys and sells financial products by anticipating price movements. The term comes from the English “to trade” (to exchange, to trade). Contrary to what one might think, it’s not that complicated: the Trader observes the market, identifies the right moment to enter a position, then exits when the price seems sufficiently attractive to generate a profit.

Essential Skills for Success

To excel in Trading, there is only one rule: know your market inside out. This means monitoring economic news in real-time, understanding geopolitical impacts, and staying connected 24/7. Many modern Traders perform their operations from their mobile devices to stay responsive. Anticipating fluctuations is the key skill that separates good Traders from others.

Different Types of Traders

The world of Trading is far from monolithic. On one side, you have Traders employed by financial institutions, and on the other, independent Traders managing their own capital autonomously.

The Independent Trader: Master of Their Game

The independent Trader operates without a direct employer. Their challenge? Protect their Trading account by applying rigorous Money Management rules. This allows them to systematically calculate the best performance/risk ratio before each decision. Many of these professionals specialize in a single market or financial product: stock indices, commodities, or crypto Traders investing in cryptocurrencies. Several also utilize derivatives like CFDs (Contracts for Difference), attracted by leverage that amplifies their investment capacity with limited capital.

The Flow Trader: Advice and Client Relations

Conversely, some Traders work on behalf of their clients. Called Flow Traders, they play the role of manager and advisor. Their mission is not limited to pure Trading: they must develop a loyal clientele through their expertise and sound recommendations.
