Michael Saylor: Bitcoin has the right to inscription, but not to change the fundamentals

During the latest episode of “The Breakdown” on Gokhstein Media, Strategy founder Michael Saylor revealed his philosophy regarding the polarizing topic of inscriptions on the Bitcoin blockchain. While he acknowledges that BITCOIN Ordinals are a source of heated debate within the ecosystem, his stance is clear: the Bitcoin protocol must remain unchanged.

Saylor’s key message concerns what should be free and what should not. Bitcoin network users should have full freedom to utilize the technology—both institutional players and retail investors. This right also includes recording inscriptions on the blockchain. However, this freedom should not lead to modifications of the core protocol itself.

Stability above all

For Saylor, the integrity of the Bitcoin system is fundamental, not its functionalities. Therefore, he firmly refuses to support any architectural changes to the network, regardless of whether they promote or restrict inscriptions. He does not support censorship—nor will he push for protocol evolution to support additional use cases.

This position reflects a broader philosophy: good ideas will survive through natural market selection, and bad ones will fail. Bitcoin should remain open to all users and their needs, but without remodeling its fundamental structure.
