At the beginning of the new year, the security of crypto assets has once again become a topic that must be prioritized.

The core principle of holding digital assets is simple—key operations must be completed on your own device, with every step clearly visible. This ensures that the private key remains in your control at all times, rather than relying on third-party platforms.

In the current crypto ecosystem, self-custody has become the standard choice for many experienced users. Whether it's transaction confirmation, transfer authorization, or smart contract interaction, verifying on a local device is much more secure than online confirmation.

So the question is—when choosing a decentralized wallet and self-custody solutions, what security factor do you care about most? Is it the private key generation mechanism, hardware isolation capability, or the backup method for recovery phrases?

Holding the private key in your own hands is the only way to sleep peacefully; I really don't trust the tricks of those exchanges.

With the private key in hand, I own the world; everything else is just an illusion.

To be honest, hardware wallets are the real deal; everything else is just fleeting. Cold wallets are confident as long as they are offline.

Self-custody wallets sound good in theory, but everyone who has actually used a hardware wallet knows that the experience can be really frustrating. To be honest, what I fear the most is making a mistake myself. No matter how secure the mechanism is, it can't save me from accidental slips. The recovery phrase is the most critical part, and I don't feel secure no matter where I write it down. I've been using Ledger for three years just to have peace of mind. But to be fair, 99% of people should actually use exchanges. Worrying about self-custody every day can actually lead to more issues.

To be honest, I've been into self-custody for a long time. Hardware wallets are really the standard equipment, right?

With the private key in hand, I own the world. But honestly, the hardware wallet process is really complicated, and you have to remember the seed phrase... Does anyone really execute it perfectly?

Honestly, I've understood self-custody for a long time, I'm just worried that people around me are still keeping their coins on exchanges. Hardware wallets are the real deal; everything else is nonsense. The key point is the old saying: not your keys, not your coins. There's nothing new about it.

Cold wallets are really comfortable, no more worries about exchanges running away.
