I've been involved with Web3 storage for a while, and Walrus (WAL) is one of the few projects that truly solve practical problems.

What’s most impressive is its RedStuff two-dimensional encoding technology. The core idea is not complicated—fragment large files and disperse storage across the network. The amazing part is that data security can be guaranteed with only 4 to 5 times replication factor. Compared to traditional storage solutions, this cuts costs by over 50% and achieves better redundancy.

In actual tests, uploading a 4K video took over two minutes with traditional cloud storage, but with Walrus, it only took about 30 seconds. Even if 30% of nodes go offline simultaneously, the system can fully recover data within 7 minutes, with a durability metric reaching 99.999%—a rare figure in the storage field.

Architecturally, Walrus is deeply integrated with the Sui public chain. Using Move language to implement programmable storage, developers building DApps no longer need to rely on centralized servers, representing a qualitative leap in ecosystem freedom.

In terms of funding and ecosystem, investments came from a16z and Standard Crypto, and Grayscale has also launched a dedicated trust product. Recently, the destruction data at the start of 2026 caught attention—destroying 100 million tokens in a single month, demonstrating a solid deflationary logic. As the core storage layer of the Sui ecosystem, WAL’s long-term potential is definitely worth watching.
