Why Do You Always Suffer Losses? Because You Don't Know How to Cut Losses!

A mature trader is not someone who never makes mistakes, but someone who knows how to admit mistakes properly. Those who have been following me for a long time know that I always emphasize one thing: surviving in the market is more important than making quick money. But most investors when stepping into the crypto market only carry the dream of getting rich overnight, and the result is often… account burn-out. I have met many people who choose very good coins, enter trades quite well, but die because of one word: stubbornness. When the price just turns down, instead of cutting losses, they comfort themselves: “Wait for a slight rebound then exit.” On the first day, they don’t exit; on the second day, losses deepen, and they dare not sell. A 2% loss is tolerable; a 5% loss begins to cause hesitation; until they are down 20–30%, they no longer have the courage to exit the position. This is not market failure. This is trading mindset failure. High Leverage – The Profit Accelerator and Also the Account Grinder Many people do not understand the true nature of leverage. Last year, there were days when Bitcoin fluctuated more than 10% in a single session, causing over 100,000 accounts to be liquidated with a total value of over $360 million. During other sharp declines, the number of accounts wiped out reached up to 140,000. Why is it so terrifying? Because many traders use leverage of 50x, 100x, even 125x. Just a 1% price move against them can completely vaporize their account. Leverage is not wrong. The mistake is using leverage without risk management discipline. The Crocodile Rule: A Harsh Lesson on Cutting Losses In finance, there is a famous rule called the “Crocodile Rule”: If a crocodile bites your leg, the more you struggle, the deeper it bites. The only way to survive is to accept sacrificing part of yourself, cut off that leg. The same applies to trading. When the market moves against your prediction, you must cut losses immediately. No hesitation, no hope, no luck. Cutting losses is not a failure. It’s to keep you alive. A few simple numbers to understand the power of losses: Account of 100 million drops to 90 million: loss of 10% → Needs an 11.1% gain to return to the original point Loss of 50 million: 50% → Needs a 100% gain to recover the capital In the crypto market, finding a coin that drops 50% is very easy. Finding a coin that increases 100% is much harder. Why Do You Always Hesitate to Cut Losses? Based on my experience, there are four main reasons:

  1. Trading with emotions Seeing the price rise triggers FOMO, fear of missing out. Seeing the price fall causes panic, selling in fear. Completely led by the market.
  2. Gambling mentality Always dreaming of quick wealth, trading heavily, treating trading like gambling.
  3. Lack of fundamental knowledge Not understanding the project, not reading whitepapers, not researching tokenomics. Just listening to others “shill” and buying accordingly.
  4. Self-deception Getting stuck in a position and then justifying it as “long-term value investing.” My Personal Cut Loss Strategy Everyone has their own trading style, but I always follow these principles:
  5. Enter a trade with an exit plan Before clicking buy, I have already set my stop-loss point. If the price moves against me, I exit immediately, no debate with the market.
  6. No more than 2% of total assets at risk per trade This is strict discipline. Thanks to this, even if I lose many consecutive trades, the account still has recovery potential.
  7. Different risk management for different coins Top coins can have wider stop-loss ranges. Small altcoins require tighter stop-losses.
  8. Including time-based stop-loss If a coin remains sideways for too long, and my capital is “buried,” I am also ready to exit to find better opportunities. When Is the Right Time to Buy More When Prices Drop? Only in one case: genuine value investing. That is: You have thoroughly researched the project Believe in long-term vision Have sufficient capital And enough time Most investors only use “long-term investing” as an excuse to hide being stuck in a position. Value investors buy more when the market is in panic. The majority panic sell. Conclusion: Trading is a Game for Those Who Know How to Survive The market doesn’t need you to be 100% correct in your predictions. It only needs you not to let a single mistake wipe out your entire account. Without cutting losses, no matter how much you profit, it will all be lost in a crash. Opportunities are always there. The market never lacks waves. What you need is a system that helps you survive long enough to seize opportunities. Don’t wait for prices to crash before hoping for a rebound. That’s not strategy, that’s luck. To go long-term in crypto, you must learn how to admit mistakes properly. Preserving capital is the key to a future. That’s the biggest lesson I’ve learned after years of navigating this market. Anyone who wants to survive long-term in crypto, remember one thing: Cutting losses doesn’t make you poor. Not cutting losses is what makes you broke.
