On January 2nd, Maduro used a journalist interview to send a message to the United States from afar, conveying three key points: Venezuela is willing to seriously discuss agreements to combat drug trafficking; if the US needs oil, Venezuela is ready to accept investments at any time; and he also stated that a comprehensive economic development agreement can be reached. This stance, no matter how you look at it, seems to be a sign of submission to the US, indicating a reluctance to continue confrontation. Perhaps Maduro realizes that the odds of opposing the US are slim, perceives potential danger, or maybe he is retreating to advance, aiming to lull the US into a false sense of security and buy some breathing room.

However, the US is not buying this at all. In the early hours of January 3rd, a US military aircraft directly entered Venezuela's capital and took Maduro and his wife away, reportedly back to the US. This move fully demonstrates hegemonic behavior.
