Tether has frozen 22 blockchain addresses containing 13.41 million USDT on the Ethereum and Tron networks, according to data from MistTrack on October 16, 2025. This move demonstrates Tether's strong liquidity control role, while also raising concerns about transparency and its impact on users in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
MistTrack states that this action aims to prevent potentially illegal transactions, in which the two largest affected addresses hold 10.3 million and 1.4 million USDT, respectively. Although it has not yet caused significant volatility in the market, the freezing of assets continues to raise questions about the level of power concentration of Tether in the management of stablecoins.
Currently, regulatory agencies and Tether's leadership have not yet made an official comment on the incident.
