On March 27, Bank of America strategist Michael Hartnett stated that investors should buy consumer stocks to bet on the ‘policy panic’ as the U.S. strives to prevent an economic recession. In a client report, the strategist mentioned that once the conflict in the Middle East is resolved, President Donald Trump is likely to push for measures to protect American consumers from the impacts of an economic downturn and maintain his support among voters. Hartnett noted, ‘We believe there will be a policy panic aimed at avoiding recession.’ He added that Trump would seek to pivot post-conflict to address affordability issues and declining approval ratings.
