Anthropic submitted an affidavit to federal court challenging the Pentagon's determination that it poses national security risks. The company argued that the government's claims were based on technical misunderstandings and issues that were never raised during negotiations. Anthropic's policy lead stated that the Pentagon's claim that Anthropic required an operating license was inaccurate, and noted that days after the determination was announced, a Defense Department official sent an email stating that the two sides were "very close" to agreement on the disputed autonomous weapons and surveillance issues. Anthropic's technical lead added that once its Claude artificial intelligence system is deployed to secure government systems, the company would have no access to or remote control of these systems, thereby refuting claims about operational interference risks.
