Solana demonstrates unprecedented resilience against sustained 6 Tbps DDoS attack

Solana [SOL $139.68 | 24h Volatility: 2.25% | Market Cap: $78.86B | 24h Vol: $145.46M] managed to maintain operational integrity during weeks of volumetric DDoS attacks reaching 6 terabits per second, solidifying its reputation as one of the most robust blockchains in the industry.

Co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko confirmed on December 9th the magnitude of the attack, describing it as the most severe active threat against the network infrastructure. The most notable: slot latency remained at zero throughout the period, with no measurable service degradation. In his words, the attackers spent resources equivalent to the revenue generated by the chain solely to send malicious traffic, an indicator of the level of engineering achieved.

Third-party confirmation validates resilience

Pipe Network, a key infrastructure provider, independently corroborated these data. Under a volumetric attack of 6 Tbps — which translates to billions of packets per second — the expected outcome would be exponential increases in latency, slot loss, and confirmation delays. However, metrics showed median confirmations sustained at 450 milliseconds and p90 confirmations below 700 milliseconds.

Mert Mumtaz, CEO of Helius, emphasized that the network withstood more than a week of continuous bombardment without typical users experiencing any impact, testifying to the level of engineering optimization in Solana.

Radical contrast with the fragile past

This result represents a fundamental transformation compared to Solana of 2021-2022, a period marked by recurrent outages. In September 2021, a token sale event left the network offline for 17 hours. May 2022 recorded the seventh outage of the year, sparking debates about centralization and architecture. These incidents fueled widespread skepticism regarding the chain’s reliability.

Since May 2023, Solana has not reported outages. The catalyst: implementation of Firedancer, a validator client developed by Jump Crypto, along with other deep infrastructure improvements that transformed the network’s defense.

Global scale perspective

Although 6 Tbps is considerable, it does not occupy the upper range of recent incidents. Cloudflare mitigated attacks exceeding 29.7 Tbps in Q3 2025 ( mainly from the Aisuru botnet ), while Microsoft Azure stopped a 15.72 Tbps assault against Australian infrastructure in October. Solana positions itself in the top third of the largest documented attacks.

Important technical details remain confidential: the measurement methodology for the 6 Tbps figure has not been published, the identity of attackers remains unknown, and motivations are not established. The Solana Foundation did not issue an official statement, although the network status dashboard shows no incidents in December 2025.

Market impact and network activity

SOL’s price showed similar resilience: limited movement despite the event. Meanwhile, the network registered significant momentum, reaching an all-time high of approximately $380,000 in daily payment volume, representing a 750% weekly growth.

The conclusion is clear: the chain that faced critical fragility three years ago now absorbs one of the largest DDoS attacks recorded in internet history without visible interruptions, demonstrating that investment in resilient architecture yields tangible results.
