Trump Is Considering Paul Atkins to Run SEC

Long-time financial regulator Paul Atkins has been interviewed for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair by President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team.

According to a Bloomberg report, those acquainted with the process said Atkins is a strong candidate to succeed Gary Gensler, SEC Chair. No final decision has yet been made, these sources who cannot speak publicly said, and Trump is expected to announce his choice shortly.

People under consideration for the role include former Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Heath Tarbert, SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda and Robert Stebbins, a partner at the law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher.

President-elect Trump has been making quick decisions on his second term appointments and will announce the remaining when finalized, Trump spokesperson Karoline Leavitt mentioned in a statement. However, Atkins and his team did not respond to Bloomberg’s requests for comments as of yet.
