AMD CEO LISA SU: AI Does Not Cause Job Loss, But Changes Who Gets Hired
🔹 AMD CEO Lisa Su states that AI does not reduce AMD’s hiring. The company is still experiencing strong growth and continues to recruit many personnel.
🔹 However, AMD prioritizes candidates who truly understand and proactively use AI. Ms. Lisa Su calls these individuals “AI forward.”
🔹 AI is being integrated into all of AMD’s processes, from design and manufacturing to chip testing.
🔹 Lisa Su emphasizes that AI does not replace humans but helps increase productivity and expand product development capabilities.
🔹 This statement contrasts with the view of Neel Kashkari, President of the Minneapolis Fed, who believes AI is causing large companies to slow down hiring.
Both perspectives are correct, when viewed in the short and long term.
🔹 The First Industrial Revolution, which took place from 1760 to 1840, created displacement unemployment, not permanent unemployment. Machines replaced artisans, weavers, and manual laborers, causing many to lose jobs in the short term due to outdated skills.
🔹 The initial phase saw income decline, poor working conditions, longer working hours, and widespread child labor. Movements to destroy machines emerged due to fears of losing livelihoods, especially between 1811 and 1816.
🔹 The adjustment process took about 20 to 40 years depending on the country. Afterwards, the economy grew more strongly, real wages increased, and many new industries emerged.
🔹 Technology does not cause society to lack jobs but only changes the types of jobs. Those who learn and adapt to new skills early are the primary beneficiaries.
