Ethereum has provided the world with decentralized apps (dApps), but high gas fees have always kept the average user behind. The solution to this problem is Layer 2 (L2) solutions, which are currently the most discussed topic in the crypto space.
Layer 2 Solutions: How Do They Work?
Layer 2 essentially acts as an "extra road" on top of the blockchain (Layer 1). Imagine the main highway is congested; we build a flyover so cars can move quickly.
Optimistic Rollups (Arbitrum, Optimism): These group transactions together for processing.
ZK-Rollups (zkSync, Polygon zkEVM): This technology uses "Zero-Knowledge Proofs," which are excellent for security and privacy.
Impact on the Market
Since the Dencun upgrade, transaction fees on L2 networks have decreased by up to 90%. This means that now an average user can swap or mint NFTs for just a few cents. In my opinion, the 2024-2025 bull cycle will be incomplete without L2 projects.
Decision (Personal Opinion)
In-depth analysis shows that only the blockchains that are cheap and fast will survive. Ethereum will remain the king due to its security, but usability will come from L2s. If you're new to the market, be sure to research the top projects in the Layer 2 ecosystem.
