Donald Trump "considers" amnesty for the co-founder of Samurai Wallet
U.S. President Donald Trump said he will consider the case of Keonne Rodriguez, the Samourai Wallet developer who was convicted, and also left open the possibility of a pardon. Speaking at the White House, Trump said he has heard about the case and will “review the details” even though he does not currently have all the specifics.
Rodriguez and co-founder William Lonergan Hill were sentenced to 5 and 4 years in prison respectively on November 19 for their involvement in operating the Samourai Wallet cryptocurrency mixing protocol. Privacy advocates and cryptocurrency users argue that they should not be held responsible for the actions of third parties using the software.
Rodriguez stated that the wave of calls for clemency is having an effect and believes Trump may understand the case. He admitted that the chances of appealing are almost gone after accepting a plea deal to avoid facing up to 25 years in prison.
