On April 7, local time, United Nations Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric announced at a regular press conference that, based on the preliminary investigation results of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the attacks on and deaths of peacekeepers that occurred on March 29 and 30 involved explosive materials originating from Israel and Hezbollah, respectively, and the relevant findings have been reported to the parties concerned.

Dujarric said that the shell fired on March 29 was launched by an Israeli “Merkava” tank, and that the explosive device on March 30 was very likely planted by Hezbollah. He emphasized that these were only preliminary results, that the United Nations’ comprehensive investigation is still ongoing, and that investigation committees will be established for both incidents.

Dujarric once again expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the government of Indonesia, wishing the injured a speedy recovery. He pointed out that attacks on peacekeepers may constitute a war crime, which is unacceptable, and called on the relevant parties to conduct a thorough investigation and pursue accountability, effectively ensuring the safety of peacekeepers.
