Business Climate Index 50.2% - Logistics activity in China becomes more active in March

Today (8th), the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing released the March China Logistics Industry Business Climate Index. The data show that logistics business activity in March became more active, coordination and advancement along the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain and supply chain were promoted, investment in the logistics sector increased, and market expectations improved in step.

The March China Logistics Industry Business Climate Index was 50.2%, up 2.7 percentage points from the previous month. By sub-indices, it shows an across-the-board rebound trend, with a clear recovery in the total business volume index, new orders index, inventory turnover rate index, capital turnover rate index, equipment utilization rate index, employed personnel index, and business activity expectations index.

The total business volume index was 50.2%, up 2.7 percentage points month-on-month. The total business volume indices in major industries all achieved month-on-month increases:

The railway transportation industry’s total business volume index was 54.4%, up 0.3 percentage points month-on-month;

The aviation logistics, postal express, and road transportation industry total business volume indices increased by 3.7, 2.5, and 3.1 percentage points month-on-month, respectively.

Overall, the recovery of the industrial chain in the first quarter was positive, providing strong support for the rebound in logistics demand.

Growth in enterprises’ employment job demand: the employed personnel index was 49.7%, up 1.4 percentage points month-on-month; among which, in the central and western regions, the employed personnel index reached above 50% and expanded within the growth range.

Liu Yuhang, Director of the China Logistics Information Center: In March this year, the logistics industry business climate index returned to the expansion range. Key indicators all showed clear improvement. Logistics companies strengthened their capabilities in digitalization and supply chain integration services, driving an orderly and favorable trend across the logistics industry throughout the first quarter.

Investment in the logistics sector stabilized and rebounded. The fixed asset investment completion index was 51.4%, up 0.8 percentage points month-on-month. The enterprise business activity expectations index was 54.2%, up 3.2 percentage points month-on-month, and enterprises maintain optimistic expectations for future development.
