On March 27, People’s Finance News reported that on March 27, Chen Zorong, Deputy Director of the Macao Economic and Technological Development Bureau, stated at the “Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Technology Innovation Forum” event of the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum Annual Conference that artificial intelligence (AI) is a significant opportunity for Macao to break through resource bottlenecks and promote economic diversification. Macao is promoting the integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation, transforming the technology industry from planning to real-world application. Chen Zorong pointed out that Macao can leverage three key characteristics to serve the national “AI+” initiative: First, it has world-class leisure and tourism settings, expecting to receive over 40 million visitors in 2025, providing abundant testing and application space for AI; Second, it can utilize the advantages of “one country, two systems” and the Sino-Portuguese platform to become an important springboard for mainland enterprises to connect with Portuguese-speaking countries; Third, it can leverage government-guided funds to attract long-term capital, accelerate the construction of technology research and development industrial parks, and create innovative carriers in digital technology, biomedicine, and other fields.
