After the U.S. granted India a temporary exemption to purchase Russian oil, Indian refineries have bought approximately 30 million barrels of Russian oil.

According to reports, since the U.S. announced a temporary exemption for India to purchase Russian oil, Indian refiners have bought about 30 million barrels of Russian oil. Reports indicate that under U.S. pressure, India has been gradually reducing its oil purchases from Russia since 2025. Sources say that since the U.S. approved India’s procurement of Russian oil last week, Indian refiners, including state-owned oil companies and Reliance Industries, have “gobbled up all unsold Russian crude on the spot market.” It is reported that this batch of oil has been loaded onto ships but has not yet been delivered, with most of it located in Asian waters.
