Italy Refuses to Participate in Military Operations in the Strait of Hormuz

On March 16th local time, Italian Prime Minister Meloni stated that Italy’s current focus is to strengthen the EU’s escort missions in the Red Sea. The situation in the Strait of Hormuz is obviously more complex because it means moving further toward involvement in the conflict. Meloni said that freedom of navigation is crucial for Italy, but military intervention in the Strait of Hormuz objectively means taking a step forward in terms of involvement in the conflict. Italian media interpreted this as Meloni refusing to participate in military actions in the Strait of Hormuz. (CCTV News)
