On March 23, 2026, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, met with UK Prime Minister’s National Security Advisor, Powell, in Beijing.

Wang Yi stated that in January this year, Prime Minister Sunak’s successful and historic visit to China received positive evaluations from all sectors of society and international public opinion, fully demonstrating that the development of a long-term stable comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the UK is the trend and the people’s will. It also shows that as long as both sides work together and engage in constructive communication, they can effectively handle challenges and issues, achieving mutual benefits and win-win results. Both sides should implement the consensus reached by their leaders, carry out exchanges at all levels, deepen cooperation in various fields, effectively manage differences, and promote the steady development of China-UK relations.

Powell expressed that the UK is willing to work with China to implement the成果 of Prime Minister Sunak’s visit to China, strengthen communication and cooperation, and jointly develop a long-term stable comprehensive strategic partnership.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Iran situation, the Ukraine crisis, and other issues. Wang Yi introduced China’s objective and fair stance, stating that the spillover effects of the Iran situation are expanding, and prolonging the conflict can only cause more damage and serious aftereffects. Now, what all parties need to do is not to add fuel to the fire, but to address the root causes and bring the issues back to the track of dialogue and political resolution.
