The Ethereum Foundation published an article outlining the future ecosystem vision for L1 and L2. The article points out that L1 will maintain its role as a global settlement and DeFi hub, while L2's core mission has shifted from simple scalability to providing differentiated and customized services. The Foundation recommends that L2 at least reaches Stage 1 security standards and encourages evolution toward Stage 2, synchronous composability, and "native Rollup" directions. Meanwhile, the Ethereum Foundation commits to continuing to scale L1 and Blobs (currently only about 30% capacity utilization) and will focus on addressing cross-chain experience fragmentation issues brought by the multi-chain ecosystem.
