Iraqi Military: NATO Mission Withdrawal from Iraq is Precautionary Measure
On the 23rd local time, Saad Ma’an, head of the Security Media Center under the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, stated that the NATO mission in Iraq has not been recently attacked, and the decision to withdraw from Iraq was a preventive measure coordinated with the Iraqi government. Ma’an pointed out that according to the previously reached agreement, the International Coalition forces had fully withdrawn from Iraq by the end of September 2025. Ma’an emphasized that the NATO mission in Iraq is a non-combat unit, based at the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, and is not part of the International Coalition forces. Its tasks include providing military consulting and training to Iraq, without carrying weapons or possessing combat equipment. Apart from locations related to the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, it is not stationed at any Iraqi military bases. On the 20th local time, the NATO Allied Command Europe issued a statement saying that the NATO mission in Iraq has completed adjustments, transferring all personnel from the Middle East to Europe. NATO stated that the last group of personnel in Iraq left on March 20. (CCTV News)
