After Carnival, Focus and other models were discontinued, Ford confirmed it will return to the traditional passenger vehicle market.
IT Home, February 26 — Ford has long focused its resources on crossovers, SUVs, and pickups, gradually abandoning traditional passenger cars, making it one of the most prominent manufacturers in this industry trend. According to tonight’s report from foreign media Carscoops, Ford has now confirmed that it will relaunch its passenger car lineup, with new models focusing on the European market.
Over the past five years, Ford has discontinued models such as Mondeo, Fiesta, and Focus in Europe. Currently, in the U.S. market, the Mustang is the only traditional passenger car still being sold by Ford. However, Ford CEO Jim Farley confirmed at the Q4 FY2025 earnings call that the company is advancing a new passenger car plan for Europe.
Farley stated that Ford will focus on segments where it has advantages, aiming not only to restore profitability in the passenger car business but also to improve dealer profitability, thereby supporting future business growth.
IT Home learned from the report that Ford is currently collaborating with Renault to develop new models based on the Ampr electric platform, which has been used for the Renault 4 and Renault 5. One of these models is expected to be a pure electric successor to the Fiesta, while another is anticipated to be a pure electric crossover, potentially serving as the successor to the Puma Gen-E.
Ford Germany head Christoph Hölz previously stated that the company will invest in several new vehicle projects, some of which will be developed jointly with partners, covering hybrid and pure electric powertrains. These new models are expected to be launched starting in 2027.
Additionally, Ford has appointed Christian Wengert to oversee passenger car business development. With the new management structure in place, Ford is reconfiguring its passenger car lineup for the European market.
