Ask AI · Dongfang Huili Yao Yuan: How to interpret the return of foreign investment under geopolitical tensions?

Southern Finance, 21st Century Business Herald Reporter Yuan Sijie, Hong Kong Report

On March 11, the “Bay Area Financial Experts Conference” hosted by Southern Finance Media Group was held in Hong Kong. The event, themed “Vision 2026—Interpretation of Two Sessions Policies and Spring Investment Outlook,” gathered chief economists and market strategists from leading financial institutions for a high-level, in-depth dialogue.

“I believe China’s supply-side competitiveness and manufacturing strength are well recognized. Over the past year or two, we’ve heard many European and American companies bring back previously outsourced supply chains. I think this reflects the core competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing,” said Yao Yuan, Senior Investment Strategist at Oriental Huili Asset Management Asia. In the complex geopolitical environment, China’s stable environment and manufacturing capabilities are attracting continuous overseas capital inflows.

At the same time, from a capital market perspective, Yao Yuan pointed out that during China’s market rebound over the past year, overseas investors have gradually reduced their previous underweight positions in China.

He believes that the main reason China’s capital markets can attract foreign investment is that, driven by new productive forces, emerging industries like AI have boosted investors’ confidence in the new economy and their expectations for the future.
