Coinbase CEO Says Aging Will Become Optional in the Future
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong thinks that the aging process will no longer be necessary in the near future
ContentsAging Viewed as a Treatable ConditionNew Limit and Anti-Aging ResearchCrypto Leaders Betting on LongevityHe regards aging as a disease and is heavily investing in research to prolong the lifespan of human beings
Armstrong is a newcomer who recently outlined his startup NewLimit, which is developing technologies to reverse cell aging.
Aging Viewed as a Treatable Condition
Armstrong has said that aging kills more than 100,000 per day, as researchers have found that almost 150,000 die in the world daily
The majority of the deaths are associated with age-related conditions like cancer, dementia, and heart disease
He makes the claim that it is not necessary to look at growing old as inevitable. In his view, the aging of old cells can be reversed to make them look younger and avoid most of these diseases.
New Limit and Anti-Aging Research
In 2022, Armstrong sold 2% of his Coinbase stake and co-founded NewLimit; he raised $110 million
The startup is busy reprogramming human cells so that they can be rejuvenated to bring youthful functions
By mid-2025, NewLimit had its prototype medicine that would restore older hepatocytes
The company later in the year enhanced its first reprogramming therapy to be eight times more accurate and 1.6 times more powerful
Armstrong holds the view that in the next few decades, epigenetic reprogramming will be able to dramatically increase human lifespan
In October of last year, NewLimit raised a fund amounting to $45 million, and the company was worth 1.62 billion. Armstrong values it based on the advancement in reversing cellular aging.
Crypto Leaders Betting on Longevity
Armstrong is also not the only person to support the anti-aging efforts. Etherium co-founder Vitalik Buterin donated millions to longevity research
In 2018, Buterin donated 2.4 million Ether to the SENS Research Foundation, which specializes in aging medical treatments
He also gave 1,000 ETH and 430 billion ELON to the Methuselah Foundation and 25 million SHIB to Future of Life Institute
The institute would later dissociate Butterin with it when he changed its research directions. Such activities point to the increased interest of crypto executives in prolonging human life, exploiting science and technology.
Crypto leaders such as Brian Armstrong are starting to see aging as an issue that can be resolved
The move towards the concept of longevity and preventative medicine is traced in investments in startups such as NewLimit and through nonprofit research
Promising cellular reprogramming can enable people to live longer and healthier lives. The work by Armstrong is an indication that anti-aging technology is not just a theoretical study, but it will soon be applied in practice, and it is likely to revolutionize human health in the coming decades.
