Caixin: Japan and the U.S. are once again strengthening cooperation in the energy sector, focusing on energy investment, critical minerals, and deep-sea mining.

On March 19 local time, U.S. President Trump and visiting Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Sato held a summit at the White House. After the meeting, both sides issued a joint statement, stating that Japan and the U.S. will enhance cooperation in three major areas: energy investment, critical minerals, and deep-sea mining.

Japan will make a second round of investments in the U.S., including a $40 billion joint venture between GE Vernova and Hitachi in Tennessee and Alabama to build small modular reactors (SMRs), and a $33 billion investment in Pennsylvania and Texas to develop natural gas power plants.
