Vitalik Buterin's Ethereum Development Roadmap
Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, has presented a comprehensive vision for network scaling that covers both near-term and long-term initiatives. According to information from NS3.AI, the proposed approach aims to significantly improve network efficiency while reducing infrastructure load.
Short-term Updates for the Glamsterdam Fork
In the initial development phase, coinciding with the upcoming Glamsterdam fork, three key improvements are planned. A block-level access list will optimize how validators access state data, speeding up transaction processing.
The second innovation—ePBS (block builder proposal)—will redesign the block construction process by dividing roles between proposers and builders. This separation of responsibilities will enhance fairness and security within the network.
The third component, multi-dimensional gas, will overhaul the fee system, allowing more flexible resource management and better reflecting the true cost of various operations on the blockchain. Together, these three improvements will enable more efficient operation execution and optimize management of the network’s state growth.
Long-term Capacity Expansion Strategy
Looking ahead, the focus is on significantly increasing the capacity of blobs—specialized data stores designed for storing information that does not require constant access. Expanding this mechanism is a key part of Vitalik Buterin’s plans to transform Ethereum into a full-featured second-layer scaling platform.
Enhancing blob capacity will reduce data storage costs for Layer 2 solutions, making them more accessible and affordable for users. This strategy demonstrates Buterin’s long-term vision of transforming Ethereum into an infrastructure capable of supporting millions of transactions per second while maintaining decentralization and security.
