Khamenei will be buried in the holy city of Mashhad, Iran

According to a report by Iran’s Fars News Agency, the late Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei will be buried in the holy city of Mashhad, Iran. The date of the funeral has not yet been announced. Multiple Iranian media outlets confirmed on the 1st that Khamenei died during attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran. The Iranian government subsequently issued a statement announcing a 40-day national mourning and a seven-day closure of public institutions. Khamenei was born in Mashhad in 1939. In October 1981, Khamenei was elected President of Iran and served until 1989. As president, he led the country through the Iran-Iraq War. In June 1989, Iran’s first Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khomeini, passed away. Following the appointment by Iran’s Assembly of Experts, Khamenei succeeded as Supreme Leader. (Xinhua News Agency)
