Cong Revamps Manipur Unit, Sets Up Political Affairs Committee Ahead Of Next Year's Assembly Polls

(MENAFN- IANS) New Delhi/Imphal, March 20 (IANS) After appointing a new state President and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in February, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday constituted a Political Affairs Committee and appointed four Vice-Presidents and twelve General Secretaries for the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).

A Congress leader in Imphal said that, in a move to further strengthen the party organisation ahead of next year’s Assembly elections, the Political Affairs Committee has been constituted and new Vice-Presidents and General Secretaries have been appointed.

In a press release issued by All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, it was stated that the Political Affairs Committee has been formed with Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, state President Okram Ibobi Singh, Congress Legislature Party leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh, and several other senior leaders of the state unit.

Heads of the state’s frontal organisations of the Congress will also serve as ex officio members of the Political Affairs Committee.

The newly appointed Vice-Presidents include Vidyapati Senjam, L. Tilotama, Hareshwar Goshwami, and Mohammad Amin Shah.

The General Secretaries appointed are S. Manaoton Singh, Jeeten Singh, Amir Hussaain, H. Meghachandra Mangangcha, Th Sokho George, Seram Niken Singh, Ksh Kennedy Singh, Chawngbiak Thomte, John Panmei, Rabi Khan, and Ningthoujam Popilal Singh.

In February, Congress President Kharge had announced a major organisational reshuffle in the state, appointing a new state President, Working Presidents, Treasurer, Leader and Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislature Party, as well as Chairpersons of the Election and Campaign Committees of the MPCC.

Former three-time Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh was appointed President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee.

The then state President Keisham Meghachandra Singh was named Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), while K. Ranjit was appointed Deputy CLP leader.

Former MLAs Victor Keishing and Manga Vaiphei were appointed as Working Presidents of the MPCC. Victor Keishing is the son of former Chief Minister Rishang Keishing.

Former MLA Fajur Rahim was appointed Treasurer of the MPCC.

Former Assembly Speaker and MLA Th Lokeshwar Singh was named Chairperson of the Campaign Committee, while former MPCC President and former minister Moirangthem Okendro was appointed Chairperson of the Election Committee.

The AICC release had stated that the party“appreciates the contributions” of outgoing state President Keisham Meghachandra Singh.

Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh had earlier served as the CLP leader prior to the organisational changes made in February.
