Imported bauxite ore index edges up
As of March 10, 2026, the SMM imported bauxite index is $62.28 per ton, up $0.02 per ton from the previous trading day, mainly due to rising caustic soda prices; the SMM Guinea FOB average price is $37.5 per ton, unchanged from the previous trading day; the SMM Guinea bauxite CIF average price is $62 per ton, unchanged from the previous trading day; the SMM Australian low-temperature bauxite CIF average price is $60 per ton, unchanged from the previous trading day; the SMM Australian high-temperature bauxite CIF average price is $55 per ton, unchanged from the previous trading day; the Malaysian bauxite CIF average price is $47 per ton, unchanged from the previous trading day; the washed Malaysian bauxite CIF average price is $59 per ton, unchanged from the previous trading day; the Ghana bauxite CIF price is $70.5 per ton, unchanged from the previous trading day; the bauxite CFR (Turkey) price is $69.5 per ton, unchanged from last Friday. Regarding domestic ore, according to SMM research, current production and shipment are normal, and prices continue to fluctuate. For imported ore, influenced by geopolitical factors, crude oil prices have risen, causing significant fluctuations in sea freight rates. According to SMM research, some mines have already limited shipments, with no new quotes issued for now, and the market remains cautious. Currently, traders are only offering sporadic quotes, with prices rising compared to earlier, but downstream alumina plants have limited acceptance of price increases. It is expected that buying and selling prices will continue to fluctuate. (Shanghai Nonferrous Metals Network)
