GATINEAU, QC, Feb. 13, 2026 /CNW/ -

On Friday, February 13, 2026, the Supreme Court of Canada granted the appeal in the contested election for the federal riding of Terrebonne and annulled the election result.
The Speaker of the House will address a warrant to the Chief Electoral Officer for the issue of a writ for the election of a member to fill the vacancy.
The writ will be issued between the 11th day and the 180th day of the receipt of the warrant by the Chief Electoral Officer.
The by-election must be held on a Monday, at least 36 days but no more than 50 days after the day the by-election is announced.
As outlined in the _Canada Elections Act_, the contested election process is a way to address issues that may arise in the delivery of an election.
Elections Canada is ready to administer a by-election in Terrebonne.

Elections Canada is an independent, non-partisan agency that reports directly to Parliament.
