Mortgage rates remain elevated around 6%. Freddie Mac reported that the 30-year fixed rate mortgage averaged 6.22% for the week ending March 19, 2026, up from 6.11% the previous week. The 15-year fixed rate also rose to 5.54%. Chief Economist Sam Khater noted that market indicators suggest home prices this spring will be more affordable than last year, but rates remain well above homebuyers' expectations, reflecting continued market sensitivity to inflation and Treasury yields.
