Comprehensive Guide: How to Submit a KYC Application on Pi Network and Successfully Get Verified

Pi Network is a digital currency developed by researchers from Stanford, with over 47 million users worldwide. To transfer Pi Coin from the testnet to the mainnet and conduct real transactions, you need to submit a KYC (Know Your Customer) registration — a mandatory identity verification step.

Although this process is relatively simple, many users face challenges such as uploading documents, verifying liveness, or system errors. If you’re preparing to submit your KYC application or encountering difficulties, this step-by-step guide will help you through the process.

Why is KYC registration required on Pi Network?

KYC verification is not optional but a prerequisite for Pi Network users to upgrade their digital assets to the mainnet. According to Pi’s regulations, each pioneer must complete this verification step to perform transactions on the mainnet. With Pi’s decentralized verification mechanism, this process not only ensures legitimacy but also protects the ecosystem from fraudulent or invalid activities.

Requirements before submitting your KYC application

Before starting the submission process, ensure you meet all the following criteria:

Mandatory conditions:

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • Have a government-issued ID (passport, driver’s license, or national ID card) — using a passport is recommended to increase approval chances
  • Clear face photo matching the ID image (the system will automatically capture to verify liveness)
  • Have mined Pi for at least 30 days (not necessarily consecutive)
  • Own a smartphone with a functioning camera
  • Allocate about 5-10 minutes to complete the process

Important note: Requirements and criteria may vary depending on your country or region. Some countries have specific regulations that Pi Network must comply with.

Detailed steps to complete KYC verification

To submit your KYC application, follow these steps:

Step 1-2: Prepare the app Download the Pi Browser app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store (if you haven’t already). Open the app and navigate to the Mainnet section via the menu.

Step 3-4: Access the KYC module Within the Mainnet, tap the checklist tab and complete all tasks until “Apply for KYC.” Once done, the KYC application tab will unlock. If it doesn’t appear, go to “kyc.pi” in the Pi Browser to launch it.

Step 5-6: Select country and ID type On the first screen, choose your country from the dropdown menu (must match the country on your ID). Then select the ID type — passport is highly recommended.

Step 7: Read instructions carefully Pi will display four slides guiding how to position your ID and take proper photos. Read each slide carefully before proceeding.

Step 8: Upload ID photos Tap “Add front image” — the camera will activate. Take a clear, well-lit photo of the front of your ID, ensuring all information is visible. If the back contains necessary info, upload the back as well. Capture in landscape mode for best quality.

Step 9: Fill out the form After uploading the ID, you’ll be directed to a form. Fill in the details exactly as on your ID:

  • First name
  • Middle name (if any)
  • Last name
  • Gender
  • Date of birth
  • ID number
  • ID expiration date
  • Country of residence

Make sure all information matches your ID 100% to avoid rejection.

Step 10: Verify face via liveness check This is the final step — tap “I’m ready” to activate the front camera. Hold your phone in front of your face; the system will automatically capture your image. Ensure your face is clear, well-lit, and matches the ID photo. Completing this step successfully submits your KYC application.

How to check KYC status after submission

Method 1: Check in your profile Access your personal profile within the Pi Network app. You will see a green checkmark next to “Identity Verification (KYC)” if approved. If a loading icon appears, your application is still pending.

Method 2: Check the Mainnet checklist Go to the Mainnet checklist section — if the “Waiting for KYC result” tab turns green, your KYC has been verified.

Note: Many users report that the checklist tab doesn’t update colors immediately even after approval. This may be a bug; rely primarily on the KYC status within the Pi Browser app for accurate confirmation.

How Pi Network’s decentralized verification system works

When you submit a KYC application, Pi Network doesn’t process all applications centrally. Instead, it uses a decentralized verification mechanism: verified users act as verifiers to approve others’ applications.

Verification process:

  1. Your application is sent to the first verifier
  2. Once approved, it moves to the second verifier
  3. If both approve, your KYC is approved

Verifiers are usually citizens from your country, making the process faster and more understandable. To incentivize verification, each approved KYC grants the verifier 1 Pi.

Processing time and reasons for rejection

How long does approval take? After submission, processing can take from a few hours to several months, depending on the number of pending applications and available verifiers in your region. In lucky cases with accurate info and sufficient verifiers, approval can happen within minutes.

Common reasons for rejection:

  • Blurry or unclear ID photos
  • Mismatch between form info and ID
  • Liveness check face not clear or doesn’t match ID
  • Expired ID
  • Technical issues or suspected fraud

If rejected, you can resubmit. Ensure your photos are clear, well-lit, and all info is correct before trying again.
