As the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran continues, the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked, and the US military is deploying more Marine Corps units and warships to the Middle East. On the 17th local time, the amphibious assault ship USS LPD 17 “San Antonio” was spotted near Singapore. US sources say this ship is transporting US personnel to the Middle East.

This footage was taken on March 17 near the waters off Singapore, showing the USS LPD 17 “San Antonio” passing through the area.

US officials state that a batch of additional US Marine Corps personnel is being transported to the Middle East aboard the “San Antonio.” Three US officials said these personnel are from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit based in Okinawa, a rapid response force of about 2,200 troops, which the Department of Defense has previously ordered to deploy to the Middle East.

The “San Antonio” is stationed at the US military base in Sasebo, Japan, and can carry F-35 fighters, “Osprey” transport aircraft, and landing craft for amphibious assaults.

Concerns Grow Over US Ground Forces Potentially Being Sent to Iran

It is currently unclear what specific missions these troops are assigned in the Middle East, but analysts suggest that these Marine Corps personnel may be conducting raids near the Iranian coast and establishing positions along the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of US ground forces being sent to Iran.

It is said that completing the deployment could take about two weeks, around the end of March. Merely their presence is unlikely to significantly change the war situation. The Marine Expeditionary Unit can quickly deploy initial reinforcements, but capturing and controlling key areas or supporting long-term operations would require larger forces.
