A-share Midday Review: Shanghai Composite Index Down 0.95%, 4,700 Stocks Declining, Non-ferrous Metals and Chemical Sectors Leading Losses

Gelonghui March 19 | The three major A-share indices all declined in the morning session. By midday, the Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.95% to 4,024.23 points, the Shenzhen Component Index dropped 1.11%, the ChiNext Index decreased 0.11%, and the Beijing Securities 50 Index declined 2.21%. The half-day trading volume for the Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Beijing markets was 1.3148 trillion yuan, an increase of 65.3 billion yuan compared to the previous day. A total of 4,700 stocks in the market declined.

In terms of sectors, the escalation of Middle East tensions triggered a surge in international oil prices, with Brent crude oil temporarily surpassing $107 per barrel. Oil & gas, coal, electricity, and computing power leasing sectors performed strongly; meanwhile, non-ferrous metals, chemicals, and steel sectors led the declines. (Gelonghui)
