According to a report from the UK Parliament's Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy (JCNSS), the committee believes that cryptocurrency donations pose an "unnecessary and unacceptable high risk" to the political funding system and is calling on the government to ban donations to political parties in the form of cryptocurrency. The committee recommends reassessing the matter only after the Electoral Commission establishes statutory guidance applicable to its regulated entities. The report also notes that under the current framework, the cross-border nature, anonymity, and coin-mixing techniques associated with crypto donations increase the difficulty in identifying ultimate beneficiaries, creating risks of external interference and money laundering.
