Caixin: The case of Xu An, former president of Guizhou Bank, who was investigated in May 2024 and dismissed in February 2025, has recently received a verdict. He was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve in the first instance for bribery, embezzlement, and money laundering.

On the evening of March 18, 2026, the Liupanshui Intermediate People’s Court in Guizhou Province announced that Xu An was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for bribery, with lifelong political rights deprivation, and confiscation of all personal assets; ten years in prison for embezzlement, with a fine of 500,000 RMB; and two years in prison for money laundering, with a fine of 50,000 RMB. The sentences were combined, and the court decided to execute the death penalty with a two-year reprieve, lifelong political rights deprivation, and confiscation of all personal assets.
