National Food Safety Risk Assessment Center Responds to "Freeze-Dried Strawberry" Standards

Today (March 16), a batch of freeze-dried strawberries from Zhangzhou, Fujian, was self-tested and found to contain cadmium levels as high as 0.728 mg/kg, along with residues of more than 20 other pesticides exceeding the permitted limits. Regarding the issue of cadmium limits in freeze-dried strawberries, the National Food Safety Risk Assessment Center responded that the freeze-drying process does not generate new cadmium contamination. Companies should use compliant fresh strawberries in accordance with the “National Food Safety Standard for Limits of Contaminants in Food.” Regulatory authorities can assess compliance based on cadmium test results and dehydration rates of the freeze-dried strawberries.
